Rise Quilt- Prairie Points and Borders

Friends, we've made it! Today is the last pattern release for the Rise quilt along. I'm so sad that it's over, but I can't wait to see your finished quilts.

The giveaway winner is Bridgette McNay! Thanks to all who entered- I could just hug every one of you who sewed along this summer. Thank you for making this so much fun.

Here's my finished top. I went with softer colors, cream instead of white, and a pale grey border to match the baskets this time and I just love how dainty it is. One or the other of mine will be for sale soon, since having two baby girl quilts of the same sort in this boy house would be truly excessive! Don't you love my cute helper who isn't quiiite tall enough? :)

Lastly, I will announce here when the full paper pattern is available.

Thanks again friends! I hope you love your Rise quilts!

Cirrus Solids Quilt Block Pattern

I am very excited to be a part of a blog hop today featuring Cirrus solids by Cloud 9. Each of us has designed a 12" block using these gorgeous solids in the same colors, and we're sharing the patterns for them. I made this jaunty little double pinwheel block- I hope you have fun with it!

Fabric Requirements:

10" squares in 5 colors, or scraps

Cutting Instructions:

Background- (4) 4 1/4" squares

Inner (smaller) Pinwheel-
      Color 1- (2) 4 1/4" squares
      Color 2- (2) 4 1/4" squares

Outer (larger) Pinwheel-
      Color 1- (4) 3 7/8" squares
      Color 2- (4) 3 7/8" squares

Cut the 4 1/4" squares twice diagonally, yielding 4 pieces each. Cut the 3 7/8" squares once diagonally, yielding 2 pieces each.

Sewing Instructions:

Assume a 1/4" seam throughout, and press all seams open.

Sew a background triangle piece to an inner pinwheel triangle, then sew that unit to an outer pinwheel triangle. Trim to 3.5" square. Make 16 of these units, 8 of each colorway.

Using 4 units from the last step, arrange into the following formation and sew units side by side, then sew the rows together. Make 4 of these units, 2 for each colorway.

Sew the pinwheels side by side, then sew the rows together to achieve a 2 by 2 grid with colors in alternate positions.

Twenty of the blocks together in a quilt would look like this. Isn't that fun? I love the movement it creates.

My block has been mailed in to be sewn all together with the others into sampler quilts for charity. I hope we get to see the quilts, they will be so unique.

Thank you Cloud 9 for the beautiful fat quarters, the Cirrus solids have a gorgeous texture and weave, I really enjoyed working with them. Not to mention the pretty colors!

Thank you also to our blog hop host, Stephanie. You can find more block tutorials from these wonderful ladies at the following links.

Pink and Navy Star Quilt

Remember the mockup for this quilt? It's finished and picked up and going to be presented at the wedding dinner tomorrow! It turned out just like we planned, which is always a good thing. I did add a little more solids to the mix, which I really love.

It was quilted by my local longarmer Molly Anderson in "popcorn".

Here is the heart that contains lace from the bride's dress. Her mom sneakily requested some from the dress maker so she could surprise her with this quilt. The other heart is lace from her own dress, which was VERY difficult for me to cut into! I love the sentiment and meaning behind this quilt, I also love that it's in her wedding colors.

Pattern: (12) 12" sawtooth stars, 2" sashing, 3.5" border, heart pattern can be found here.
Fabric:
  • Kona Nightfall (dark blue)
  • Kona Pink (light pink)
  • Moda Bella Betty's Pink (dark pink)
  • Moda Bella 97 (white)
  • Medium Navy Gingham by Riley Blake (star centers)
  • Pearl Bracelets in Navy (star centers)
  • Navy floral from Little Miss Sunshine by Lella Boutique (border)
  • Navy Swiss Dots by Riley Blake (binding)

Rise Quilt- Block 9

We made it to the final block! It's such a fun one too. I'm so proud of those who have kept up with the blocks. I know how difficult it can be to stay consistent with sew alongs (Spendid Sampler, cough cough), but so many of you have been diligent. They are going to be so cute!! Here is the final balloon.

I have already started filling a little dish with names of those who are entered in the giveaway for participating. You can make sure you are entered by sharing your finished blocks or block on Instagram with the hashtag #risequilt, or telling me on the Woodberry Way facebook page that you've been sewing along. The giveaway winner will be picked the day of the final pattern release- September 16th.

I did a little better with my block this time. I slowed down, was thoughtful about my fabric choices, and I love it. See you next time for the final instructions, hooray!
